Whatcom Community College has provided an opportunity for international students to team up second year nursing students to learn about US health care These teams meet face to face once a month and mentors are also available by phone or email to answer questions and support the international student. In addition, nursing students host quarterly workshops focusing on health promotion and discuss issues such as nutrition, stress relief techniques, and disease prevention. This project provides international students with opportunities to make American friends, learn about US medical resources, enjoy snacks, boost their resumé, and share about their culture. The project also allows nursing students to practice therapeutic communication across cultures, complete their senior project, and enhance their portfolio. All participants receive WCC's "Health Care Across Cultures" certificate at the end of the year.
